GS1 Digital Link
Create a product QR code from a GTIN and add links for product information, instructions, support, and more.
Use GS1 Digital Link when you are creating a QR code for a retail product that already has a GTIN, such as the number printed below its barcode.
For a poster, menu, business card, event sign, or other ordinary link, choose Standard QR instead.
Before you start:You need a valid GTIN and at least one secure web page for the product. GeoQR checks the GTIN before the QR code can be created.
Create a Product QR Code
- Open QR Codes and select Create QR code.
- Choose GS1 Digital Link.
- Enter the product's GTIN.
- Choose the domain that should appear in the QR link.
- Add the main page people should visit after an ordinary scan.
- Add any extra product links you need.
- Review the design, create, and test the finished QR code.
GeoQR accepts GTIN-8, GTIN-12, GTIN-13, and GTIN-14 values with a valid check digit.
Choose the Main Product Page
The default destination is the page most people should see when they scan the QR code. This could be a product page, digital product passport, support page, or another useful starting point.
Use a secure https:// address. Test the page on a phone before creating the QR code.
Add More Product Links
Extra resources let supported GS1 services find a more specific page. Examples include:
- instructions, quick start guides, tutorials, and FAQs
- safety, allergen, ingredient, and nutrition information
- sustainability, recycling, certification, and traceability information
- product videos, images, recipes, events, and promotions
- registration, reviews, support, service, and spare supplies
- Digital Product Passports, recall status, and verification services
Give each link a clear title and a secure web address. Each resource type can be added once. The editor shows the complete list of available types.
Check Product Link Safety
GeoQR checks product links for known safety problems when you save them.
GeoQR blocks QR code creation—or saving changes to an existing QR code—when a product link is known to be unsafe or its safety cannot be confirmed.
If creating or saving is blocked, confirm the address, replace or remove the affected link, and try again. A successful safety check only means GeoQR found no known safety problem; it does not prove the page is online or contains the correct information. Open every product link and scan-test the finished QR code on a phone.
Set Destinations and Tracking
GS1 destinations can use the same device rules, country rules, temporary schedules, and campaign tracking as a Standard QR code.
GeoQR first chooses the matching destination, then applies an active temporary schedule, and finally adds the applicable tracking labels.
Confirm the Domain Before Creating
The domain on a GS1 QR code cannot be changed after the QR code is created. Confirm that you control the domain and intend to keep using it before you create or print the code.
Design for Reliable Scanning
Keep at least four QR modules of clear space on every side of a printed GS1 code. Test the final artwork at its real printed size.
The optional GTIN label is only visible text in the artwork. Changing that label does not change the GTIN encoded in the QR code.
Export Your GS1 Setup
Select Export GS1 JSON when you need a portable copy of the GS1 configuration. Export requires a paid plan.
After a paid subscription ends, GeoQR provides 30 days of read-only export access. Download the file during that period if you need to keep it.
